In this month’s meeting we will be finding out about ” The Tilley Timber Project”

The Tilley Timber Project ran from 2015 to 2018 and is one of the UK’s largest dendrochronology (tree-ring dating) projects to date. It entailed detailed surveys of 19 buildings in the well-preserved but largely overlooked hamlet of Tilley Village in North Shropshire. The project has thrown unprecedented light not only on the individual buildings, but on the history and development of the settlement and its landscape context.

The speaker,  George Nash is an Associate Professor at the Geosciences Centre of Coimbra University, ITM in central Portugal. He and his family have lived in Tilley since 2010.

The competition will be “a wooden artefact or object”
